Keynote speaker, Cathy Seeley, will engage participants in a discussion about structuring our math classrooms to give students the opportunity to constructively struggle with engaging problems as they learn the knowledge and skills they need for the future. Participants will think together about what it takes to help every student become a mathematical thinker and problem solver.
Cathy Seeley has been a mathematics teacher, K-12 district coordinator and K-12 State Director of Mathematics for Texas. From 1999 to 2001 she taught mathematics (in French) as a Peace Corps volunteer in Burkina Faso. Dr. Seeley served as President of NCTM from 2004-2006. She is author of several books, including two 2016 titles from ASCD:
Making Sense of Math
(for teachers) and
Building a Math-Positive Culture
(for leaders). Her other recent books are

(2014). Dr. Seeley worked for 20 years as a Senior Fellow at the Charles A. Dana Center at The University of Texas, but continues to stay busy as a speaker, writer, and consultant on improving mathematics teaching and learning at the local, state, and national level.
Lisa Bush is a Director of Professional Learning for Math Solutions, and a conference speaker. Lisa is the project manager for the Shell Centre Formative Assessment Lessons project that is funded through a Gates Foundation Grant. She has created and provided numerous professional development opportunities for educators. She authored the curriculum and resources for a math capstone course and an elementary math methods course for Grand Canyon University. Her coaching experience includes beginning teachers, mentor teachers and career classroom teachers. Lisa has taught mathematics in classrooms ranging from kindergarten to calculus.
Patty Clark is the Director of Content Development. In her role, she oversees the development of courses and partnerships and supports Math Solutions consultants and Directors of Professional Learning in their work to design and provide professional development for district-level administrators, school-based math leadership teams, coaches, and teachers across the country. Patty has facilitated partnership projects with Deer Valley Unified School District, Atlanta Public Schools, East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Baltimore County Schools, and Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, to name a few.Prior to joining the organization, Patty -worked twenty years as a teacher and instructional specialist in Texas, New Mexico, and Virginia. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education, with a focus in math, science, and technology from the University of New Mexico. Patty lives in Manassas, Virginia.
